I’m actually living in Rochester and just flew to ft. lauderdale last week for under $200. I lucked out and found really cheap flights…my flight down was jet blue and cost $110 and my flight back up was continental and cost $79. I found the Jet blue flight on their website and the continental one on expedia. I would definitely recommend flying if at all possible…I’ve actually done the drive before too and it takes about 23 hours so I’m sure a bus/train ride would also be a pain in the ass.
I guess my advice would be to mix and match airlines to find the best deal and try looking at alternative airports such as her flying out from buffalo which is only about an hour away. Like another person said, southwest flies from there, but not Rochester. Also, it’s usually cheaper to fly during the middle of the week rather than on a weekend and since summer is the off-season for Florida, flights should be cheaper this time of year. My last piece of advice would be for your girlfriend to carry on her baggage rather than check it…continental was going to charge me $15 to check just one small bag (fortunately I was able to carry it on.)

You can get a round trip ticket on Greyhound for $170 if you buy the tickets 21 days before traveling. see site below.
Once in a while you can get Airtran tickets pretty cheap. If she wants to fly out of buffalo, it’s usually way cheaper. Southwest out of buffalo can be about $69 each way. The train is a possibility, but it’s a bit more and takes way longer. You can use sites like expedia or tavelocity. Other cheap airlines I use are US Airways and Jet Blue. The cost will depend on where and when you want to fly out.
